warranty and care information

WARRANTY INFORMATION

At Scallywag Fabrication, we stand behind the quality of our products and the brands we sell.

Our aluminium trays and canopies are built to last, and we’re proud to offer a Lifetime Guarantee on workmanship and a 3-year warranty on hardware supplied by us.

For on-sold items (such as camping gear or branded accessories), warranty coverage is provided by the original manufacturer, as outlined below.

Warranty Coverage

This Warranty applies to:

The hardware purchased from Scallywag Fabrication (the “Hardware”)

The welds and workmanship on our physical goods (the “Workmanship”)

Hardware includes all equipment attached to the tray and/or canopy and supplied by Scallywag Fabrication upon purchase.

Camping Gear and On-Sold Products include high-quality branded items such as fridges, lighting, and outdoor accessories purchased through Scallywag Fabrication but not manufactured by us.

What Does This Warranty Cover?

This warranty covers any defects in the hardware or workmanship under normal use and maintenance during the Warranty Period.

During the Warranty Period, Scallywag Fabrication will repair or replace, at no charge, any item that proves defective due to poor hardware or workmanship.

For camping gear and on-sold products, warranty claims are handled directly through the product manufacturer or supplier under their respective warranty terms.

What Will We Do to Correct the Problem?

Fabricated Products: Scallywag Fabrication will repair or replace, at no charge, using new or equivalent replacement parts.

On-Sold Products: We will assist in connecting you with the appropriate manufacturer or supplier to support your claim and provide any necessary documentation.

Warranty Periods

The Lifetime Guarantee on workmanship applies to all trays and canopies built by Scallywag Fabrication. This means that for as long as you own the product, we guarantee the quality of our welds and workmanship under normal use.

All hardware supplied by Scallywag Fabrication—such as hinges, bolts, catches, latches, and similar components—is covered by a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase.

All camping gear and other on-sold products are covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty. Coverage periods and terms vary depending on the brand and product type. Scallywag Fabrication will assist you in contacting the manufacturer if you need to make a claim under their warranty.

What This Warranty Does Not Cover

This warranty does not cover issues caused by:

  • Misuse, neglect, accidents, or modifications not approved by Scallywag Fabrication.

  • Damage caused by off-road impacts, collisions, or overloading beyond specified limits.

  • Normal wear and tear, cosmetic changes, or corrosion due to environmental exposure.

  • Improper cleaning products, harsh chemicals, or use of automated car washes.

  • Factory-installed vehicle components such as sensors, cameras, or wiring (covered under your vehicle manufacturer’s warranty).

How to Make a Claim

To obtain warranty service:

  1. Contact Scallywag Fabrication to report the issue and confirm eligibility.

  2. Provide proof of purchase, photos of the defect, and a short description of the fault.

  3. We’ll help determine whether the claim is covered under Scallywag Fabrication’s warranty or through a manufacturer warranty.

Vehicle Load and Suspension Responsibility

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure their vehicle’s suspension, load rating, and overall setup are appropriate for the additional weight of the products purchased and fitted by Scallywag Fabrication.

Before purchase or installation, customers should:

  • Confirm their vehicle’s GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) and payload capacity.

  • Consider upgrading or adjusting suspension if fitting heavier products or deluxe packages.

  • Seek professional advice if unsure about their vehicle’s load handling capabilities.

Important:

Customers with stock suspension should be aware that additional accessories—such as trays, canopies, toolboxes, or underbody water tanks—may exceed factory specifications. In such cases, suspension upgrades or adjustments are strongly recommended to maintain safe handling and compliance with road regulations.

Scallywag Fabrication accepts no responsibility for:

  • Vehicle performance issues, uneven ride height, or damage resulting from inadequate suspension setup.

  • Vehicle registration or insurance complications arising from exceeding the manufacturer’s GVM limits.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR TRAY & CANOPY

Proper maintenance and care will help extend the life of your Scallywag Fabrication tray and canopy and keep it looking its best.

Cleaning & General Maintenance

  • Wash your tray and canopy regularly using a mild car wash soap, water, and a soft cloth or sponge.

  • Avoid using acidic or alkaline cleaning products, which may damage the aluminium.

  • Dry thoroughly with a chamois to prevent water spots and oxidation.

  • If light scratches appear, use a light Scotch-Brite pad and rub gently along the grain of the aluminium.

Tray & Canopy Maintenance

  • Tray Mount & Chassis Bolts: Check bolts after 1,000–2,000 km and then at regular service intervals. Tighten as needed.

  • Sideboard Catches & Hinges: If any rattles develop, tighten bolts using a 10mm spanner. Avoid overtightening.

  • Mudguards & Toolboxes: Ensure mounting bolts remain tight. Use a 17mm spanner for adjustments.

  • Undertray Drawer: Keep slides clean and lubricate with silicone spray if resistance develops.

Canopy Maintenance

  • Locks & Latches: Spray white lithium grease or WD-40 into locks every 3 months to keep them functioning smoothly.

  • Rubber Seals: Wipe seals clean after every wash to remove dust and debris, ensuring a proper seal.

Water Tank Care

  • Flush the under-tray water tank with clean water regularly.

  • If not in use for extended periods, drain completely to prevent contamination.

  • Avoid filling with anything other than clean drinking water.

Preventing Damage

  • Avoid overloading drawers, toolboxes, or canopy shelves beyond recommended weight limits.

  • Store heavy items low to maintain stability and prevent stress on mount points.

  • Keep bird droppings, mud, and tree sap off the aluminium—clean promptly to prevent stains.

Avoid Car Washes

To maintain the appearance and longevity of your Scallywag Fabrication tray and/or canopy, we strongly recommend avoiding car washes. The harsh chemicals and cleaning agents used in these washes can react with aluminium, potentially causing staining or discolouration.

Vehicle Sensor Relocation & Calibration

If your ute is equipped with factory-installed sensors, Scallywag Fabrication will relocate them in accordance with the body builder’s specifications when fitting your new tray and/or canopy.

In some cases, after relocation, you may notice a warning light on your dashboard. This typically indicates that the sensors require recalibration. To resolve this, you will need to take your vehicle to a dealership or authorised service centre to have the sensors reprogrammed.

Please note that these sensors are existing components of your vehicle, and as such, any warranty claims related to sensor functionality must be handled through your vehicle’s dealership.

Scallywag Fabrication does not provide warranty coverage for factory-fitted sensors or electronic components.
